In the 2018-2019 school year, I started a yarn club at school for other students and so ended up knitting and crocheting at least once a week and teaching others how to get started in yarncraft. I made a ton of scarves that winter to donate to the Food Pantry at school for students who didn’t have winter gear. Here are two of my favorites.

Masks
Finally into the present for craft projects! In the first round, I made 65 masks for friends and family. I’m still experimenting with which styles but I do like the pleated tie kind right now. Next round may be the more contoured mask and I’ll have to experiment with elastic. I just don’t think they provide as tight a fit as ties do.
Miniature Room Box March 2019
A friend of mine loves cats and so I made here a miniature room box. It was a ton of fun to make and started me on a bit of a miniature fixation. I ended up getting a few kits but I didn’t work on them very much. Hopefully, in the future, I’ll be able to combine the kits into a cafe/apartment box.
Stained Glass November 2017
I decided to take the “intermediate” stained glass class at the Vinery in Madison and ended up making something for my mom. My favorite piece so far and I wish I’d kept it for myself. I say that about a lot of the stuff I make. 🙂
Been awhile
It’s April of 2020 and most of the world is in isolation. I’m studying and working from home and it occurred to me to update the blog on what I’ve been making the past three years. To be totally honest, I’ve not been making a whole lot. I started university as an adult and it ate up a lot of my time, which of course is expected, but I also lost some of the school-work-life balance and worked myself to the bone to achieve a 4.0 but at the cost of a bunch of mental health along with one of my main outlets for stress, crafting.
Am I doing better? Yes and no. Amid the spread of COVID-19, not so much. Being in quarantine at home is its own kind of stress that the world is having to deal with collectively. Some of us are doing better than others, some of us are only outwardly doing alright, and some of us are not doing well at all. I think I hit all three states a few times a day to be honest.
Anyway, here’s to maybe crafting a bit more on the regular and hoping we find a remedy and a vaccine to COVD-19.
Project Catch Up – Eclipse Viewer
The Eclipse 2017. So many emotions. Definitely on the bandwagon now. We had eclipse glasses but I made a viewer from a cereal box to look at and it worked well. Don’t mind the center blob – didn’t quite make a perfect circle for that one.
Asgard/Bifrost quilt design
I love all things rainbow which of course includes the Rainbow Bridge! I wanted to make a baby quilt showing Asgard and the Bifrost and tried to design something on graph paper and then Excel (my favorite-usually-free-quilting-tool). Not sure it’s obvious though…
Rainbow Crown
I’ve been trying to downsize my craft supplies in an attempt to make it easier on myself a few years down the line when we move house. I decided to make one last crown to use up my beads and then give my supplies away. I barely put a dent in my crown beads, smh. Here’s an in progress pic of just the red/orange/yellow section. I somehow magically had 7 sections of color (ROYGBPP) and a 21″ crown so each section of 2 inches of a color and 1 inch of overlap with the next color.
Once the crown was done, I toyed with adding some details to give the illusion of being taller but it was so much work I took the section I did out. I didn’t think it looked bad though.
Final product. Debating keeping it to wear on Halloween or give away to a friend. It’s just so pretty I kind of want to keep it despite the fact that I will NEVER wear it out.Â
Project Catch Up – Coloring
So, I was very late to the “adult coloring” bandwagon because I hate coloring with colored pencils and the markers were kind of cost-prohibitive. But I found a cheap alternative in Sharpies and am now a full-blown convert. I’ve even joined a meetup group hosted by the nicest organizer.
Project Catch Up – Alterations
I don’t do a lot of clothes sewing anymore (one day!) but I got this great jacket for free from my last job but it was about 1.5 sizes too big for me so I altered the sides and arms to fit me better. I removed the company logo and added a Betan Astronomical Survey patch on it. I’d gotten the patch from a sci fi convention years ago and dusted it off to put on this jacket.
